ATTORNEY PROFILE

 

NILES B. HAYMER

 

Niles Haymer is an attorney in Baton Rouge, Louisiana specializing in several areas of the law. As a law student Niles developed a passion for juvenile law and a sense of responsibility to the troubled kids he represented. He uses his experience as a juvenile attorney as a platform to mentor to young black males growing up in the inner-city.

Niles is originally from Gulfport, Mississippi where he graduated from Gulfport High School in 1996. That same year, Niles went on to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he majored in Political Science.

While at Southern, the student body elected Niles as Student Government Association (SGA) President in 1999, a position he used to sharpen his leadership skills. Niles used his position as SGA President to begin mentoring and reading programs at predominantly black elementary schools. It was also during this time that he fought against chemical plants burning the napalm chemical in close proximity to Southern and the surrounding black communities. By the end of his tenure as SGA president in 2000, the Southern University Newspaper voted him the most intriguing story of the year based on the leadership skills he brought to the campus.

Niles went on to graduate from Southern University in May 2000 with the highest GPA in the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy. He received a scholarship from the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund to attend law school at Southern University Law Center where he obtained his Juris Doctorate in May 2003. While in law school, Niles was Articles Editor of the Southern University Law Review and a member of the American Trial Lawyers' Association Mock Trial Team. He was a recipient of the Russell B. Long Federal Court Award and Juvenile Clinic Student Attorney of the Year Award.
